Does this third party controller stand up alongside it’s Nintendo developed cousin?
I won’t lie, I’ve always been apprehensive when it comes to the quality of third party controllers. Poor memories of build quality from 20+ years ago haunt my mind, so I was pleasantly surprised when I went hands-on with PowerA’s offering.

The first thing I thought when holding this controller was that it was very smooth. It doesn’t have the same level of grip that Nintendo’s Pro Controller has, but this isn’t a complaint. It’s a lighter offering in comparison, having motion controls for all those Splatoon players, but doesn’t contain HD Rumble or NFC for amiibo. While that could be seen as a negative, this makes it an ideal option for any younger gamers that want to join in on a game of Mario Party or Super Smash Bros Ultimate.

I tested the controller out in a variety of games, namely Pokémon Violet, Peglin and Powerwash Simulator. The buttons are slightly more raised, which when pressed leaves me with the satisfying feeling that I’ve achieved something that day. The two joysticks are also super responsive, and it seems like it would be difficult to damage or run into any trouble with them
Verdict
The PowerA Enhanced Wireless Controller for Nintendo Switch is a strong alternative to the Nintendo produced options. This particular Pokémon Blossom design is a thing of beauty, as a Pokémon fan I am mesmerised and would happily prop this up with my merchandise collection. With responsive buttons, lightweight feel and massive battery life, it’s hard not to recommend this controller. If you don’t mind the lack of NFC and HD Rumble, It’s an especially good option if you plan on having friends and younger family game with you!
