SPUK: Please tell us a bit about yourself, including how you first came to play Nintendo games…
KM: I’m Kevin, I’m 24 and I live in Elgin in Moray in the North of Scotland. I first came to play Nintendo games back when I was young: one Christmas I got a Game Boy Color and I got Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins with it too.
SPUK: Tell us about the North of Scotland! Is it cold today?
KM: Surprising not that cold ! It’s the first time in a long time that we have had no snow this time of year! Yay! The North of Scotland is an amazing place if you love the countryside and wildlife, it’s like a whole new world up here. Every town and city has that little something that makes you want to stay, Inverness with it’s River and Castle and Elgin with it’s historic Cathedral.
SPUK: Ok, less weather: why did you start up StreetPass Highlands and Moray? What’s it like running the most northern StreetPass group?
KM: I started up StreetPass Highlands and Moray because I used to be a very confident person until sadly certain events lead me into a downward spiral resulting in myself getting Social Anxiety and found it hard to talk to a lot of people, so after plucking up the courage I went to Eurogamer 2012 and saw how big StreetPass really is (and to try out the Wii U too). So when I got back I set about making up a group for the North to help people up here get those StreetPass hits and those Puzzle Swap Pieces !
It can be a bit of a challenge running the most Northern group as like everywhere else there is plenty of regions and I wanted to make it fair for the majority up here so I run 2 events, one is in Inverness (Highlands) and the other in Elgin (Moray) and trying to arrange 2 venues, posters etc… can be challenging but, at the end of the day, I wouldn’t change it for anything as I love it !
SPUK: What’s your favourite thing about running the group? Have you enjoyed the experience?
KM: My all time favourite thing about running the group is the amazing people I have met and have become good friends with, also with running the group it’s getting me over my Social Anxiety. Oh yes! The experience is amazing, I shall keep doing these events until the end of time!
SPUK: You seem to travel around quite a bit, what’s the furthest you’ve travelled for a StreetPass event?
KM: The furthest I have travelled for a StreetPass Event would be London. It wasn’t that long ago actually as it was also the Nintendo UK Pokemon Winter Tournament 2013. It was a long, and I mean long journey down as it was 13 hours by bus to get there, and then the night after the event (bearing in mind we arrived in London the day of the event), I got onto another bus heading back North, leaving London 11pm to arrive back in Elgin for around 2pm the next day, but it was worth it at the end as I got to meet some quite important people! You know who you are!
I would happily do it all again. I am actually trying to plan a trip down to Manchester with the Wife as we want to attend one of their events.
SPUK: Let’s focus on the 3DS for a bit… What’s your Favourite 3DS game?
KM: My favourite 3DS game would have to be Jewel Link, can’t say which one exactly really, as there is a few and they are all equally amazing!
SPUK: What do you love about StreetPass?
KM: All of it! If I had to say one thing about why I love StreetPass, it has to be the excitement knowing that I get to play these very addictive mini games when I get a green light on my 3DS!
SPUK: Which game, do you feel, has the most interesting use of StreetPass?
KM: Hmm, I would have to say Mario Kart 7 as I love seeing other people’s Mii and their Kart and then been able to race them.
SPUK: Are there any games with StreetPass features that you wish more people played?
KM: I can’t really think of any but if I had to say one I would say Angry Birds as I got that at Christmas and haven’t seen anyone else with it and I want people to hear my Bird Sounds!
SPUK: What upcoming 3DS game are you most looking forward to?
KM: That’s an easy one! It has to be Super Smash Bros!
SPUK: Ok, let’s broaden things. What’s your Favourite Nintendo game of all time?
KM: It’s got to be Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance as I love the whole Kingdom Hearts series.
SPUK: And your absolute Favourite Nintendo series?
KM: That would have to be Mario Kart.
SPUK: On the subject of favourites you mention Jewel Link, and we believe you have a particular penchant for puzzle games? What is it about them that attracts you to them, and what are your favourites?
KM: Yes I do! What attracts me to puzzle games is that it helps stimulate the brain and it’s always good to have a nice challenge.
As said above one of my favourites would have to be the Jewel Link Series but again I can’t really say which one is best as there are a few and they are all equally amazing!
Another favourite would have to be Puzzle World 2012/13 as it has such a wide variety of puzzle’s to choose from and it’s something that never really ends unless you’re really good at puzzle’s that is!
SPUK: And finally, what’s the one game – be it a dream sequel or funky spin off – that you’d sell your left pinky to see Nintendo create?
KM: I would have to say a Mario Kart spin off with levels involving different parts of the UK etc… and also be able to use certain racers such as maybe Pikachu or even Link or even Kirby!
